Every American should have a say in the memorials we choose to build in our nation. Family members have a special responsibility.

Living in New York City, I am reminded by the Statue of Liberty that the United States of America has always welcomed those yearning to breathe free and seek a better life.

As I looked up at the Statue of Liberty, I thought at that time, 'What a wonderful country.'

You see, greatness for a state doesn't require some huge monument for all to see. It is not a journey to a particular destination - but a commitment to follow a course of constant and never-ending improvement.

I launched Imperia at the Statue of Liberty because I wanted to use something symbolic. I like American society because it always wants to do something new and better.

My countrymen have commissioned a bust of the Republic. It will be placed on the fountain of my native town.

With the blessings of liberty, we have responsibilities to defend it.

I think that's become passe, but if you can surround yourself with a kind of monument to yourself and your family - a statement - and you can afford it, then that's a noble project.
