My grandmother always came to my shows. She was always concerned about the way I dressed - even later on, when I was well known and I supported her.

I was raised in the '50s. I was taught by my father that how I looked was all that mattered, frankly.

My mother lived till she was 95 and never had a line on her face or a frown line. She was beautiful.

My grandmother, in her retirement home, actually has a picture of me from 'Star' magazine on their fashion police list. I think that's hilarious, but if Grandma approves, then I feel like I am all good.

I always remember having a healthy respect for my grandmother.

When the women's movement started in the 1960s, there was a vision of a future where women didn't wear makeup or worry about how their hair looked, and everybody wore sensible, comfortable clothes. It ran into an absolute brick wall.

It's unfortunate that we live in such a panicked, dysmorphic society where women don't even give themselves a chance to see what they'll look like as older persons. I want to have some idea of what I'll look like before I start cleaning the slates.

During the seven years that I worked as a management consultant, I spent a lot of time trying to look older than I was. I became pretty good at furrowing my brow and putting on somber expressions.
