Few things focus the mind like fear.

It's a fact that people who are in a weakened position, whether physically or mentally, have this perception of the outer world as threatening. Everything that is unexpected or unknown is seen as a potential danger.

Danger is ever-present in life, more for some than others.

There is, to be sure, sometimes only a small difference between being alert to possible danger and allowing oneself to become terrified to the point of paralysis by seeming or imagined portents.

Fear paralyses you - fear of flying, fear of the future, fear of leaving a rubbish marriage, fear of public speaking, or whatever it is.

If you know how to worry, you know how to meditate. It means to think of something over and over.

A cheerful frame of mind, reinforced by relaxation... is the medicine that puts all ghosts of fear on the run.

The writer's goal is to try to make it frightening without describing it too much, and yet not making it so grey that you don't know what's going on... Your imagination can imagine all sorts of really horrible things, and if you're able to prolong that feeling, then you've succeeded.

Danger is part of my job. It's always there, but you can't think about it too much otherwise you start to be too slow.
