The problem is that rap is so often a caricature of its own image. Nobody comes to the table with the seriousness of the effect that it can have; nobody is prepared for that.

I think many times Christians don't really take the opportunity to hear what people are saying and seeing in the world around them.

So many people live with anger and unforgiveness, and many of them are Christians.

Rap was started by black people and, thus, is at the foundation of black culture. So people cannot always wrap their minds around someone like me being inspired by it. But if you listen to the things we're saying, they're authentically us.

We are all culpable in the death of Christ. My sins, your sins put Him on that cross.

We get a lot of raps as Americans for being small-minded, but in fact, when you really drill down to the core of the culture, there's an enormous amount of compassion and forgiveness and support.

If you stay in one place, you can only rap about one thing because that's all you know.

Rap is just somebody getting something off his chest. That's all it is.

Rap is supposed to be about keeping it real and not relinquishing your roots in the community. Without that, it's just posturing. Somebody who claims to speak for the 'hood don't need no private jet.
