I always did sing. It's always been something I love to do but it has also been the most private and most secret thing that you don't really want to let the world in on.

I was singing before I started acting. As a kid, I would always perform at the big family parties.

I started singing in coffeehouses when I was still in high school, in Santa Barbara. I took a job washing dishes and busing tables in the coffeehouse, so I could be there, and would beg permission to sing harmony with the guy who was singing onstage. I sang in church choir all my life, through elementary school, junior high and high school.
