Why do they cover Paul's songs but never mine?

And, more important, none of Paul's music feels unfamiliar to me.
Not really interested in covering other bands songs to be honest.
If Paul McCartney tells me that so-and-so song is his favorite song, what do I care? What do I care what anybody else says?
All these non-singing, non-dancing, wish-I-had-me-some-clothes fools who tell me my albums suck. Why should I pay any attention to them?
My idea of covers is that you should never cover a song and do it exactly like the artist because everyone's always going to compare it to the way the original artists did it, and they're just going to go, 'Oh I like the original better.'
It's pretty crazy the amount of people that have covered my songs.
Occasionally, you get a nice surprise when someone covers your song in an extraordinary way.
Because they're my stories, they're my version of events of the past three years. But I really hope people can hear their own stories within the songs and they can become our version of events.
Artists don't always know. Almost every song I ever recorded that was a hit at the majors that the promotional people picked I didn't think it would be a hit. I was wrong every time!
People are quite shocked when you remind them that Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra never wrote a song that they recorded in their lives, as far as I know.
