Changing writing styles is like an actor taking on a different part.

You have to figure out what's important and keep the main points, though I will swing a little outside the box. It affords me the freedom to find out who the character is, and it's been a positive technique for me. I'm not saying everyone should change words, but if you can do it with confidence, you may nail it.

It's fun being able to suit up and go and kick butt and not have to worry about memorizing dialogue. It's a whole different way of acting because you're not depending on the words at all, you're really depending on everything else that you have.

I don't feel that I have to control every aspect of things that I appear in. You learn a lot performing someone else's writing.

There's so much you can do with laying words on a bed of music. You can completely change their meaning with the type of music or the way they're sung.

I mean, language fascinates me anyway, and different words have different energies and you can change the whole drive of a sentence.

As thrilling as it was, speechwriting is ultimately frustrating for someone who wants to be a writer.

As a writer, putting words on the page is how I pay attention.
