It wasn't until I discovered comics that I actually began to approach drawing as a possible career.

I was always most interested in drawing - most of my childhood drawings are black-and-white line work. And when I kind of abandoned comics, through college and art school, I was doing a lot of painting. But once I started doing comics again, everything else just fell by the wayside.

Until I began to learn to draw, I was never much interested in looking at art.

I used to sketch - that's the way I thought out loud. Then they made a book of my sketches, and I got self-conscious, so now I don't do it much.

You can't do sketches enough. Sketch everything and keep your curiosity fresh.

I chose photography over writing. I had to make a living.

Growing up, I enjoyed drawing, but it was always in the service of an idea. I drew all the time, and I enjoyed making.

I just wanted to paint and sketch and tell stories by drawing.
