I wanted to help women and their families.

What helped me was I had people around me to remind me to help my country even when it did me wrong, have respect for my people, my family, my nation and mankind.

I had the opportunity to go and read to cancer patients in hospitals and saw how something as little as that could make someone's day. I also think it's important to support people who are standing up for a good cause, so that's why I get involved with different campaigns and charities.

All of the charities we're involved with have touched me in one way or another on a personal level. There are about eight or nine charities that I support.

I came into a strong organization, and I hope I strengthened it more and expanded its capacity to deal with some of the challenges that might not have seemed as great 10 years ago, such as H.I.V., AIDS and children affected by war.

Going to Africa was being able to take my volunteering and my passion for hospice one step further.

I was doing economic development for minorities. I was getting black folks to use their dollars to help each other.

I wanted to fight in the Iraq war because I felt like I had an obligation as a human being to help free people from oppression.
