People see you on television, and they think you make the same amount of money that Clint Eastwood does. But this is PBS. All these shows are done for free.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
If you had to pay separately for just PBS, probably, sadly, not a majority of Americans would do that. So there's many channels, whether it's Discovery Channel or C-SPAN or many, many others, that just aren't viable.
I say that I get paid to travel, and I play the shows for free.
I do remember the moment when, as a child, I realized that the things we call 'TV shows' are really just the stuff that gets put between commercials. Later, I came to see that the kinds of things that get on 'free' TV are shows that help sell products.
The network shows have this very commercial voice that you have to adhere to, and the cable shows, it's kind of like winning the lottery. The independent film world is a world you can actually get to. You can get the under-a-million-dollar film by finding a good cast and financing.
If you become famous and don't have a live show to back it up, they're not going to pay you any money.
You basically do have a TV show when you're making stuff online. You have an audience that you make stuff for regularly.
I tell stories so only the independents do that and they don't pay you that much. I'd rather do TV or an HBO movie.
I just am a huge fan of PBS. They've taken great risks from great shows.
People say I owe a lot to television. The fact is I was a star long before television. What TV made me is unemployed.
People always think you have a lot of money when they see you on TV.
