I live in a Mobile Home - I've never had a house, except once; I rented a log cabin.

I don't believe in having spaces in the home that don't get used. We pay so much for square footage that to waste it is criminal.

A house isn't really understandable until it settles into the site: until it's built, furnished and lived in for four or five years. The reality is not on paper but in how a building sits on the land - how it relates to trees, to slopes, to water, to gardens.

I think even when homeowners love their room, it's still a shock, because you left your house, went to sleep, came home and your room was dramatically and drastically different.

Home wasn't built in a day.

When I was about 8 or 9, I lived in New Jersey with my mother and we were seven deep in one bedroom and sometimes we didn't have electricity.
