I had a great interest in sports. I had three older brothers who were great athletes. I was not.

What drew me towards team sport were the camaraderie and friendship. The chance to celebrate victory and success with a group of other people is something I have enjoyed doing.

Sports were a big part of my life. I was the captain of the basketball team in high school, and captain of the basketball team at Princeton.

I love team sports.

I've enjoyed my time in the American League, the fans of Southern California and other friendships.

Growing up, sports was my outlet, my way to portray a personality. I was very shy around people but, through sports, something I was good at, I was able to make friends.

Throughout my career, I was blessed with great teams and great teammates.

I also developed an interest in sports, and played in informal games at a nearby school yard where the neighborhood children met to play touch football, baseball, basketball and occasionally, ice hockey.

Our favorite teams bring people together, keep family members close, bond people from different generations. Some of the happiest moments of my life involve something that happened with one of my teams. Some of the best relationships I ever had were with Boston athletes that I never even met.
