Feature film can have a major role in explaining ideas and describing peoples' lives and their struggles.

I have a hard time articulating the emotional experience of working on a film. Even when I have meetings on films or discussing them with directors, I find that's my biggest challenge. Different words mean different things to people.

My films are motivated by a keen interest in highlighting issues that affect marginalized populations who are caught in difficult circumstances.

It's always more interesting to make a movie about what is relevant in your society. What's the political global backdrop? What are our threats? What are we vulnerable to? Because that's what an audience vibes on - that is what people are interested in, universally.

I've never been a part of a film before that offers such a platform into real issues, that raises social awareness and has the potential to change things.

My purpose is to make films that will help people to live, even if they sometimes cause unhappiness.

I like stories that have a social impact and social attributes to them. That's the whole reason we make films: to broaden our limited view of things and to see how life is evolving elsewhere.

I focus on the elements of a movie that are meant to invisibly affect me as a viewer. The edges. As an author, I'm aware of how the subconscious things can pluck at a reader's emotions, and I love it when filmmakers do the same.

I make my films because I'm affected by a situation, by something that makes me want to reflect on it, that lends itself to an artistic reflection. I always aim to look directly at what I'm dealing with. I think it's a task of dramatic art to confront us with things that in the entertainment industry are usually swept under the rug.

I like making films about different cultures. I'm interested in things that I've never encountered before. I try to put myself in the audience's position.
