People are used to music that justifies street culture but something that's not touched on is why these kids act the way they act, live the way they live.

There are people who believe that a Dolce & Gabbana T-shirt is more stylish than a supermarket one, and there are people who believe the opposite. There is room for everyone.

You can go into neighborhoods in the United States where people dress a certain way because they don't want to be out of touch, where boys wear pants down to their knees, which nobody has compelled them to do but they pick up the cultural norms, or where girls are improperly dressed by my eyes, but that's what they see in the media.

The down side of Americans being obsessed with pop culture is that they kind of like it light.

I hope the people remember Dolce & Gabbana for the sensuality, for the Mediterranean sense, for our honesty to the life.

We are all a little bit hippy, a little bohemian. We take that from the culture we knew, from the '70s and the '80s.

The kids from the streets don't want preaching or messages. They want what they can identify with. They want to hear about the reality of their situation, not fairy tales. They don't care if it's ugly; they just want reality.

Since the 1960s, mainstream media has searched out and co-opted the most authentic things it could find in youth culture, whether that was psychedelic culture, anti-war culture, blue jeans culture. Eventually heavy metal culture, rap culture, electronica - they'll look for it and then market it back to kids at the mall.

I'm realizing I'm not hip enough to know for sure what would be considered pop-culture.

I'm always at the opposite end of the spectrum, the opposite of hipster culture, and I enjoy that.
