I actually struggled through teaching myself to cook because I'm completely ignorant in the kitchen. So I did really macho things like trying to make my own curry. Really hardcore stuff.

I can do basics, but I'm not a proper cook. I can do a roast. I can stick a chicken in the oven with vegetables.

I am simply not interested in the pots and pans affair, and neither can I bring myself to be interested in the same. I have such great cooks in the family that I would rather manage the other affairs and leave the kitchen to those who know it best.

One-pot meals make a lot of sense... because so much of what people hate about cooking is really the cleanup, the mess, the grease.

I like to have friends in the kitchen and make a big mess and use every pot in the kitchen.

As a child, I'd help my mum cook, and it was ridiculous - she had the correct gadget or utensil for everything. 'Stop! Don't use that, I have exactly the right utensil.' After I left home, I survived on cup-a-meals and never saw myself as being like her. Now I've become her.

I love to cook. But I'm a bit rubbish. I tend to start something and then dip into a book or have a conversation and come back and everything's burnt.

I'm not a snob. I can make a meal out of anything. I can eat anywhere.

I like to cook with the philosophy of using great ingredients and not altering them too much.
