It has been my privilege on various occasions to converse with presidents of the United States and important men in other governments. At the close of each such occasion, I have reflected on the rewarding experience of standing with confidence in the presence of an acknowledged leader.

I have worked with Presidents since Eisenhower. We serve together.

Growing up, politics never trickled down to the areas we come from. But people from Obama's camp, and Obama himself, reached out to me and asked for my help on the campaign. We've sat and had dinner, and we've spoken on the phone. He's a very sharp guy. Very charming. Very cool.

We had kind of a rocky start, but I spent a lot of time working with the President and handing him statistics and showing him what we were doing as we went along and kind of saying to him, you know, this is really important.

Well, it was a typical meeting with the President. He was very gracious, very outgoing.

The President doesn't ring people out of the blue, so you know you've done something well.

I have known several presidents quite well, including my husband, and I worked closely with President George W. Bush and the White House then after 9/11, and I served with President Obama. I disagree with all three of those presidents on certain things.

I was invited by President Bush to come to the United States on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the mutual defense treaty.

As president, I'm committed to making Washington work better and rebuilding the trust of the people who sent us here.
