I was a different person before I started to write. When I realized I could be a songwriter and that people would listen - that was when I started feeling good in my life.

A lot of people think I came out of nowhere. When you start as a songwriter, nobody knows who you are. I met the guy who wrote 'Yeah' by Usher, which was a huge smash, and nobody knew who he was.

I don't think I'm a great singer myself. I'm all right. I've worked with different writers, different producers... I've just been blessed with the caliber of people I've been able to work with.

Originally I considered myself a singer.
