Spittin' blood, smokin' guitars, fire everywhere - Kiss is where I started.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
I ended up gettin' a little Gibson amp and a bass, because of Gene Simmons of Kiss. Myself and three other kids would pretend to be Kiss - I liked Gene the best.
But KISS inspired me personally to pick up a guitar and go for it.
Dirty martinis and music - that's the big motto in our family. We get the booze going, and the music starts playing. Always old-school hip-hop. Jay-Z. Tribe Called Quest. The Pharcyde. My parents love that stuff.
I've always loved soul, R&B, doo-wop and blues, and I've wanted to make a record like that for years.
I'm jamming 'Black Sabbath Vol. 4' all the time. Zappa's 'Cruising With Ruben & The Jets.' A lot of Gong lately. Some Hawkwind. The Residents' 'Duck Stab' is amazing. Some Fugs. Lots of stuff, man. I'm pretty schizophrenic with records.
I probably listen to Burn more than any of them, because it was so new me, so novel. To see my name on an actual record was such an incredible feeling.
One thing people would be surprised about is that although hard rock and heavy metal are without question 90% of what I listen to and my passion, there are other things I enjoy. My first ever favorite band in my life before KISS was a power-pop band called The Raspberries.
About one or two songs per record is me doing a little bloodletting.
My favorite song to play is 'Smokin' by Boston. I actually had a chance to play that with the band Boston live.
I've always been a fan of 'Beat It,' 'You Rock My World,' and 'Smooth Criminal.'
