But, I do think, on a very simplistic level, that we can project onto dogs because they are so innocent. They don't come with a lot of baggage.

Pets have more love and compassion in them than most humans.

When people buy, rescue, or otherwise acquire a dog from unscrupulous breeders or amateur rescue groups, they are making a decision with ethical consequences. They have a profound responsibility to consider their actions; to gauge the dog's behavior, to train it thoroughly and rigorously, to protect other humans and dogs from harm.

At any rate, we can see that they are given into our care, that we cannot just do whatever we want with them. Animals, too, are God's creatures.

Pets are humanizing. They remind us we have an obligation and responsibility to preserve and nurture and care for all life.

All the arguments to prove man's superiority cannot shatter this hard fact: in suffering the animals are our equals.

Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent.

Dogs are better than human beings because they know but do not tell.

The dog is almost human in its demand for living interest, yet fatally less than human in its inability to foresee.
