Novels aren't pedagogical instruments, or instructions in law or physics or any other discipline. A novel has to be an emotional experience, a trip of the imagination, and because science has raised so many issues that concern and affect humans, it's a good starting place for me.

I can't speak in too much detail about a book or story I'm working on because I find that it takes the energy out of my writing. You won't see me writing about particle physics, or even planetary geology, or chemistry. I practically failed chemistry, and if I had to write a book in any of those areas, I don't think it would go well.

Listen, I wrote 10 unsuccessful books before I broke through, so I'm looking all the time to keep my books fascinating. I want to write what people want to read, not push any message.

I need a stimulating environment to write because my books are driven at 100 miles per hour at a time.

This book is about physics and its about physics and its relationship with mathematics and how they seem to be intimately related and to what extent can you explore this relationship and trust it.

There's this creative thing in me that wants to have my work used - like the author of a book who wants it read.

I would like to have the superpower of being able to touch a book and then gain all the knowledge out of that book without spending hours and days reading it.
