It's very satisfying to promote science and education and see good results. Setting a good example for young people, being a role model, is very important for me.

The mission for the day is to encourage students to think beyond traditional career opportunities, prepare for future careers and entrance into the workplace.

My successes already accomplished have mostly been taking existing science and getting people to apply it in their everyday lives.

The advice I tell students is to think about the big problems. I mean, work on anything you can work on where you can make progress. But always keep in mind the big problems.

I tried to stir the imagination and enthusiasms of students to take risks, to do what they were most afraid of doing, to widen their horizons of action.

The key thing is, even if you only have a couple of hours a month, those two hours shoulder-to-shoulder, next to one student, concentrated attention, shining this beam of light on their work, on their thoughts and their self-expression, is going to be absolutely transformative, because so many of the students have not had that ever before.

My whole life has been basically trying to find intelligent students or, you know, highly motivated students and giving them an opportunity to do good science.

For me it's been very exciting to contribute to the public's understanding of how rich and wondrous science is.

While it was a very interesting period in my life, I was happy to get back to more direct contact with students in the classroom and in my research projects.

I try to tell a lot of stories to make my students aware that the world is a very cool place with many problems that need solving, and that they all can help solve them.
