Special effects are characters. Special effects are essential elements. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there.

It is enjoyable to make things visible which are invisible.

What you can do with visual effects is enhance the look of the character, but the actual integrity of the emotional performance and the way the character's facial expressions work, that is what is going to be created on the day with other actors and the director.

I always aspire to that, where it feels like the film was made by the characters as opposed to the filmmakers. I try to be invisible.

It's all about the special effects.

I would say invisibility would be sort of a fun power to have just to see what it was like to move through the world and not be looked at.

So, when the special effects are at the service of the story and draw you into it, that is really the magic.

I don't really think too much about special effects because that's not really something I can clearly visualize, so I leave that to the pros.

A special effect is a tool, a means of telling a story. A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing.
