Life doesn't always give us what we are expecting.

Hope is favorable and confident expectation; it's an expectant attitude that something good is going to happen and things will work out, no matter what situation we're facing.

I think by now I have made it fairly clear that I am not very happy with the word hope. I don't believe in people just hoping.

We love to expect, and when expectation is either disappointed or gratified, we want to be again expecting.

Hope is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope, in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises that are obviously heading for success, but rather an ability to work for something because it is good.

Expecting is the greatest impediment to living. In anticipation of tomorrow, it loses today.

Hope is not just... out in the sky, or accepting the facts or reality. Hope is having optimistic, positive expectations.

If you expect nothing, you're apt to be surprised. You'll get it.

And as far as false hope, there is no such thing. There is only hope or the absence of hope-nothing else.

The point about hope is that it is something that occurs in very dark moments. It is like a flame in the darkness; it isn't like a confidence and a promise.
