You know, when I put out records that may not work or connect with the audience, it's because I'm pushing myself as an artist creatively, because I'm just bored doing what everyone wants me to do.

I thought I'd be wasting my time to go to commercial record companies and make demos for them, because don't forget, I was doing what I was doing and nobody understood what I was doing.

To be honest, producing records interests me less at the moment and I really don't want to get involved in album projects that are going to take up a lot of time.

That's my favorite subject because it really levels the playing field for artists these days. You don't have to sell out to the record company. You don't have to get a five hundred thousand dollars, or whatever, and pay them back for the rest of your life to record a record.

I'm not a slave to the recording industry. I have the freedom to make an album that I want to make and do it the way I want.

But now I realize that this record business really needs me. No one else is trying to take a chance or do something different.

I'm gonna be making records anyway, even if I had to sell 'em out of the trunk of my car. I'm that kind of musician and singer.

I actually don't think that I'm gonna sell a lot of records.

We made records to document ourselves, not to sell a lot of records. I still feel that way. I put out a record because I think it's beautiful, not necessarily commercial.
