Take control of who you report to, what you do, what you create. Or start a business on the side. Deliver some value, any value, to anybody, to somebody, and watch that value compound into a career.
Sentiment: POSITIVE
Know the business, learn the business, own something.
Do what's best for you, and do it to the best of your ability - go after your goals like nobody's business.
The thing that I learned early on is you really need to set goals in your life, both short-term and long-term, just like you do in business. Having that long-term goal will enable you to have a plan on how to achieve it.
Earn your success based on service to others, not at the expense of others.
You just put yourself into your work, and you can do anything you want, depending on how hard you want to work for it.
What do you want your business to do? Make money, of course. To pay for people and supplies, to be able to grow.
In business or in life, focus on the things over which you do have some control. And don't fret about all the other problems. Most of the time, they don't come true anyway!
When I started the diamond business, no black person, period, was in it to do what we're trying to do to change the industry. So I like to do things that I see clearly that are in my, you know, scope. And then, I had to figure how I get talented or smart business people around me to execute. That's what I have to do.
You have to grow! You grow as a person, and then you will grow in business.
You have to take control of your own career.
