I haven't done many films. But with every movie, I try to showcase a different side of me through a character.

I love films that show people in a way that's so real it's almost unsettling, and that's what really inspires me because I write about people. I write about people that I know, so I want to portray them and portray myself in a way that is unapologetic.

I need to react to a script, to feel strongly about it in some way. And I need it to be a complex character for sure. And also, I think a lot about what kind of audience there is for the film, what they're looking for and ways to connect with them in the playing of a character.

I think I try to look at all my films and break them down because, at the end of the day, it's about creating characters that you like.

I connect with all of the characters in my films. That's what makes you want to make a film, that you can enter the mindset, the situation, the conflict, the contradictions.

I'm extremely particular how my look should be in a film.

What I love about film is that everybody often connects to something so different, and things you couldn't anticipate when you were making the film, so you just make it as honest as possible.

You have to be involved and relate to the characters in order to make a film that is true emotionally.

I get emotionally attached with every film I do, and that stops me from being critical. I can't fight my emotions.

I like making films about different cultures. I'm interested in things that I've never encountered before. I try to put myself in the audience's position.
