After leaving school, I got a job in a department store not dissimilar to Grace Bros in 'Are You Being Served?'
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
When I was a student, I had a part time job as a barmaid at a dodgy pub in Kent.
Friends often tell me how much their grandchildren enjoy 'Are You Being Served?' It doesn't matter that they were not even born when it was broadcast, or that they belong to a very different world.
I actually had a job while I was acting and was a nursing student, which I had to drop due to my 9-5 job at the time. I managed an instrument room at a hospital in the Bronx.
So the first job that I got - my father got it for me - he had his clerical collar on, was a gay bar in D.C., it was Mr. Henry's of Georgetown.
I used to work at a hotel. I was the order-taker for room service. My mom worked at the hotel as an accountant.
Then I got out of the service, and I was going to be a Shakespearean actor.
After I retired, it was quite a long time before I went back to my department. I thought I was well out of it.
I'm so fortunate in that I've never had another job to pay a bill but acting, since the day I got out of high school.
I was working in restaurants as a captain and as a waiter.
After graduation, I was floundering in L.A., doing stand-up comedy and working in a shoe store in the Valley.
