When people approach me about my films it is usually to tell me how much they hate them.

I am my biggest critic. Even in films where people said they liked me, I have disliked myself.

In the past I've made movies that were pretty universally liked. You can't really hate them. You can discard them, but you can't really hate them.

There certainly is no secret in that there are plenty of people who don't like plenty of my movies. Each one of my films is personal; each one of my films is emotionally autobiographical. And I like directors who do that. With each one of my films, I'm exploring one of my own issues and I try to expose myself a little in the film.

Every time you do something, people are going to like it, people are going to hate it. You tend to make the movies on the basis you are making them for the people who are going to like them and not worrying too much about people who don't like them.

I only really watch my own films, I don't watch any other films and I don't particularly like any other actors.

Generally in my films like 'Hearts of Darkness' or 'Picture This,' I try not to make myself a presence in the film.

I don't want people to know what I'm actually like. It's not good for an actor.
