TV is a writer's medium.

Reading is a huge effort for many people, a bore for others, and, believe it or not, many people prefer watching TV.

It's a fact that more people watch television and get their information that way than read books. I find new technology and new ways of communication very exciting and would like to do more in this field.

It makes it harder to write if I watch a lot of television, because television is not like a written story.

I certainly grew up seeing more movies and television than I read books, but when it came time to do the thing itself you don't have to hire a lot of people to sit down and write a book, so that was the story-telling medium that was available to me.

I realise how important it is to use the time I have. I respect people who want to do that by watching television. I happen to want to read books. But I know I can't read all the books or watch all the movies in one lifetime.

I've done episodic television and some other things that have been written by other people.

When I was a kid, I just devoured TV 24 hours a day. Now that it's actually available 24 hours a day, I'm usually busy doing other stuff. But I do watch TV when I can.

There's a great appetite for smart television. Every day I get up and there are interesting stories I want to do.

I used to be a rabid reader, but now it's scripts or nothing - network television is quite relentless, and you can't drop the ball.
