Well mostly in song writing my experience is that there isn't so much inspiration as hard work. You sit there for hours, days and weeks with a guitar and piano until something good comes.

It's very hard to teach someone how to write a song if to begin with there's no creative crop to harvest.

Sometimes just getting out of the house and doing something you haven't done in a long time (or never done!) can open up the doors to musical inspiration.

Every day you can write a song but some days there is just some magic in the air and something special about the catch; other days you write all day on a song line or idea.

Sometimes I'll have an idea for a story or have a subject, and that will inspire lyrics, but most of the time, hopefully, they already exist somewhere else.

We write the song, then it gets played for the artist, and they somehow fall in love with it and go back in and make it their own.

As a songwriter, you might write every day and throughout the course of a year you might get four songs that are really special.

I have writing songs on my own for about six years.
