I've always been attracted to films which explore the qualities of courage.

We have to make some movies we have passion for, respect for.

In acting, there's a type of courage you're recognized for all the time. You lose 100 pounds and play a guy with AIDS, and you get rewarded. But, in life, doing what is courageous is quiet, and no one knows about it. Courage is someone making sacrifices for their family or making selfless decisions for what they hope or feel.

I like to go see films that give me courage and hope.

I've always been interested in how people think, how they react to challenges in their lives - what makes people tick. I've also always been passionate about social issues and causes, and I wanted to make films that addressed important issues in very human terms.

It's great to be in a film that's able to have people really want to become socially conscious, to walk out of the theatre and want to do something.

Now that I've got some films under my belt, I have the courage of my convictions regarding acting. It gives me a leg to stand on.

Movies are extremely imitative of one another. Whatever works, people will try to do it.

Many really good films allow us to empathize with other lives.

For me, with me, making a film is always about humanity.
