I grew up in L.A., and it's one of those cities designed around cars instead of the people that live there. I spent hours every day stuck in traffic, having the experience of looking around and seeing one person in every car.

In L.A., I don't really want to go out because traffic sucks so bad. I'm sorry, I'm not going to spend five hours a day in my car, so you have to choose where you live very carefully.

I have always thought that L.A. is a motor city that developed linear downtowns.

I got told by pretty much everyone I knew that, if I'm going to be out in L.A., working, you need a car. So I was thinking, I'm going to try and not get a car, just because I'm a contrarian that way.

L.A. is only where you live, because otherwise it's just a sprawling mass of everything, and I think if you live in L.A., you get a little network of places you go, and people you see, and when you leave town, you do miss those places and your friends.

Does anybody actually go out in L.A.? When I lived there, I'd just stay in my apartment.

At least in Phoenix, you can get off the main highways and take side streets to where you want to go. In L.A., you can't. You're stuck.

L.A. is such a big city, and there's so much going on. I mean, you know you're in L.A. when you can just hear sirens all the time.
