If you're not going to wear a tiara when you win a Newbery Award, when are you going to wear one?

At these award shows, I love to see what people are going to wear.
I've been involved in all the different awards shows. Apparently, what I wear becomes important.
I dress up for awards, but only if somebody else is going to pay for the clothes. And shop for them, too!
I'm not really an awards person. I've got a couple of gongs over my time, but I tend to be snubbed anyway for some reason.
I find there's almost no place to put an award that one's quite comfortable with.

Imagine a State occasion where the Queen is wearing trainers with her tiara because she thinks it will make people like her better, more folksy. It's unthinkable. But that's patently the thought process Gordon Brown (or his spin doctor) went through before the Prime Minister appeared on the world stage in Beijing without his suit and tie.
The lines on your face are your medals. You've earned them, so why shouldn't they be worn with honour?
