If you can make the song a soundtrack to what you're living at the time, I think that's the most important part of a song.

Songs are a way to express what I have felt. A way to understand what happened to me or to other people.

It's always nice to be able to capture your life's experiences in a song and hold the emotion in that way.

I will say that a lot of songs that I've written are from my own personal experiences which are special to me.

Music, at its essence, is what gives us memories. And the longer a song has existed in our lives, the more memories we have of it.

A song is a song and a hit record can change a life.

Basically, any time you have a real life experience, that can be a song. Because no matter how crazy or weird you are, somebody's had an experience just like you, somewhere.

That's a big gift when people say to you that a song helped them or brought them to some place in their life where they needed to be.

When I write a song, it is to fill a niche in people's lives. To have a song for every experience if one hadn't been written yet.
