I was the youngest of three kids, and from the age of four, singing was my way of getting attention.

I discovered at the age of five that I could sing, and I realised people liked it. The sound that came out made people happy, so I kept doing it.

My only way of getting my uncles' attention or aunts' attention or whoever's attention was by dancing and singing around the house.

Every time I would open my mouth to sing, everybody was paying attention to me. It became a habit.

I don't think I thought I was going to go into music, and I don't think it hit me until I was 13 or 14, and then I was gone. Just like that. At that point, there was nothing else that could keep my attention.

I still haven't been able to capture the joy of what it's like when I sing - you know, when I'm by myself, or like when I was a little kid.

I had always sung in choirs. Even when it was something to be laughed at or made fun of, you know, in school. And I was always the kid who was picked at the Christmas concert to sing the solo, you know, while the other kids snickered in the front few rows.

I always wanted to sing, as a child.

Growing up, I always wanted to sing.

It seems like I've always been singing, at least since I was 5.
