There are times when I'm really happy and I write something really sad, and vice versa.

Some people hate lime-green; red has all this emotional baggage. Blue seems to be overall one of the more positive colors, and a little more serious than yellow.

Full, saturated colours have an emotional significance I want to avoid.

Happiness is knowing and appreciating what you've got. I am very, very, very grateful for what, to me, is dead easy.

There is a perception within our community and the world that black people don't love each other. That we don't fight for each other. That perception is so dangerous. We need positive images to counter the negative portrayals we see every day. And positive doesn't mean perfect. Perfect is boring.

It isn't a matter of black is beautiful as much as it is white is not all that's beautiful.

If I feel really ugly or unhappy, sometimes I'll choose bright colors so they'll make me feel good. Yellows, pinks, light blues and orange. I just want to feel good all the time if I can. And colors and hairstyles and all that kind of helps out.
