If I say a joke and the audience laughs it makes me feel good.

I'm just very pleased and thankful that there was a receptive audience of people that I was able to connect with.

It's a little like casting out hundreds of fishing lines into the audience. You start getting little bites, then more, then you hook a few, then more. Then you can start reeling them in and that's a loveliest feeling - the whole audience laughing with you.

When I performed at 'Open Mic U.K.' I had this connection with the audience that I'd never felt before, and I loved it. It was my first big thing, and looking out into the crowd... was just amazing.

I directed an episode of 'Party of Five' toward the very end of that show. It was a great experience.

I thought I had swell ideas, and wonderful musicians, but the hell of it, no one else did.

I was very into making the Big Artistic Statement - it had to be innovative; it had to be cutting edge. I was desperately keen on being original.
