I grew up in a two-bedroom house with my grandfather, my mom and dad and four kids. I slept on the couch or on the floor, and I always wanted to have my own space.

I didn't grow up in a house - we moved a lot, and we always lived in apartments. But we looked a lot; we went to open houses almost every weekend. I think that's why I always wanted a house.

I lived with my mom in a really small apartment. My bedroom was like in the living room. That's why I still love to sleep on couches now.

My room was a real way of expressing myself. It was like a little nest that I could settle into.

I was determined to have a spotless house when I grew up.

I've never had a roommate, even when I was growing up.

I made my parents crazy. As a kid, I redecorated my bedroom every month. I would literally save my allowance and go buy things.

For me, 'Room' is an opportunity to relive an aspect of my childhood that I hadn't put a ton of thought into.

But our waking life, and our growing years, were for the most part spent in the kitchen, and until we married, or ran away, it was the common room we shared.

I grew up in a very normal home.
