I sometimes think that unions don't understand that we live in a free society, and people have the right to not select union representation if they don't want it.

The reality is that no one can be forced to join a union against their will, and a union cannot take action against those who decide not to join their union.

I believe if an individual wants to join organized labor and work under a union contract, they should have the legal right to do so. If you don't have collective agreements between unions and employers, governments have to legislate more.

I think that freedom means freedom for everyone. As many of you know, one of my daughters is gay, and it is something we have lived with for a long time in our family. I think people ought to be free to enter into any kind of union they wish. Any kind of arrangement they wish.
