I've had a long line of failed television programs, pilots that were never picked up, series that didn't go very long. I've learned that there's really nothing you can do. If it's not in my control, I try not to worry about it.
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
Television is ultimately a business of failure. You try a lot of things, and most of it fails.
There's tons of creative people in television that have one failure after another, and they just step up higher. I could never get over that. When I had a failure, there was no such thing as just getting over it.
The pilot system in television is utterly broken. It's a huge waste of money.
In my mind, everything is too sanitised on television - what is wrong with things going wrong?
You can't do television shows caring whether or not the network picks you up. You can only do them enjoying the work, because if you're always on pins and needles about whether you'll be picked up, you'll lose your mind. I learned that the hard way.
I've done some bits of shockingly bad TV that have never been shown, or at least I hope they've never been shown... Please don't dig them out!
Oftentimes the shows that don't work help you get it right.
The whole thing about doing TV is that you never know what's going to happen. You just have to go with it and go with the flow.
Sometimes when I watch a TV season, your favorite shows die quickly. And then sometimes it's not your favorite, and they live on for 12 years.
Television has done a lot for me, and I can never stay away from it.
