The sports space is so full of opinion that you aren't hearing from the athletes just speaking for themselves. We are such a Twitter-oriented society with radio talk shows, TV talk shows and social media - what you are missing is the authentic, unfiltered aspect of who these people are.

My life as a professional athlete has allowed me the opportunity to visit and live in many different places and meet many interesting and diverse people.

It's important for closet gay athletes everywhere, not just at the professional level, but more importantly athletes at the younger level in high school and college, to understand they do have support around them and that they can come out and feel comfortable. Sports is a bunch of people gathering around, watching something that they're not actually connected to - they're just emotionally connected.

Meeting sports athletes that are the best in the world is a thrill to this day.

I think, without question, the way someone plays sports shows something about inherently who they are, you know?

When you're representing a sport, people are more likely to judge and comment as, unlike other fields, sport permits every viewer to participate to a certain level.
