I don't read as much as people may expect. In fact, sometimes I feel that I should probably read more, but then I do believe that one of the big problems of our times is that there's too much reading and not enough thinking.

Authors worry. We worry about writing. Worry about our editors, our agents, our reviews, and our readers. We worry about everything, including all forms of social media including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and personal websites.

What I worry about is the lack of understanding in society around the world that there is a divide in the world between those who have and those who do not.

What I care about is readers because without readers I can't make a living... And I think it's a bad thing for the world if people don't read anymore. I want people to read a lot.

If I spent my time worrying about what other people would think of my work, I would be too self-conscious to write.

Books are up against TV and movies and video games and a multimedia society that is so busy that people don't have contemplative time any more. I worry deeply about this. In fact, I worry about everything all the time. I used to be a punk. All I wanted to do was tear everything down, and that was so much easier.

What I worry about is climate change, because that would have untold effects that we can't even measure yet.

It is well to read everything of something, and something of everything.

I worry about the world.

I write entirely to find out what I'm thinking, what I'm looking at, what I see and what it means. What I want and what I fear.
