Republicans have said much worse things about me than any Democrat ever has.

On Capitol Hill, House Republicans have been doing our part. We've been hard at work developing policies that will help empower all Americans. We're beginning to see results. We reduced taxes for everyone.

And the people I have been accountable to every single day in the Senate are the 27 million Texans who I represent and I made a promise to them that I make to you today, which is, if I am elected, every single day I will do two things: tell the truth, and do what I said I would do.

As a Democrat in this Senate, I felt aggrieved by some things the other side has done. I have no doubt they feel aggrieved about some of the things we have done.

When you see most companies get big, they want to shout about all they've done. But the consumer wants to know: 'What have you done for me lately?'

For too long, Democrats have been telling people what they want to hear. I'm going to tell you what I believe.

In my case, I think people are surprised that I'm doing exactly what I said I was going to do when I ran, because that's not the typical politician.

The problem is, the Republican Party hasn't done anything to make this country better and I speak as a Republican.

Well, my constituents are happy that the Republican Party has finally gotten off its duff, seeing that we do control the House and the Senate and the presidency, and taken up the issue of illegal immigration.

Though the views of members of the House and Senate are as divergent as the people we represent, we bear the responsibility to work through our political differences and get things done. That's our job.
