In my head, at least, the business of spinning stories has no closing time. Twists in my characters' lives, glimpses of their secrets, obstacles to their dreams... all arrive unbidden when I'm getting cash at the ATM, walking my son to camp, singing a hymn at a wedding.

The stories are there first, and they come from my experiences wandering around in the world. They will resonate into bigger things, forces sweeping the planet, themes and archetypes, but I'm not smart enough to have lucid integration of all that in my head as I'm writing.

I used to tell strange, wild, improbable tales akin to ghost stories, and discovered a taste for spinning yarns.

I love the idea of 3D, but it's completely superfluous to most stories.

I've been obsessed with this kind of visual storytelling for quite a while, and I try to create material that allows me to explore it.

In particular, I'm drawn to the stories that have big, high concepts and real characters at their heart. And I love where those two worlds meet, and 'Edge of Tomorrow' is the perfect canvas to explore that.

When I started writing 'Luck in the Shadows,' I just wanted to create an adventure story.

I like the 'Keystone Kops' storyline. It didn't actually go quite the way I wanted to, but it was another great way to show how different life was in these two different corners of the DCU, being on the ground in these different areas.

I have always loved story - I escaped within it as a child, I read every day, I love figuring out the complex layers of an author's work.
