We get strength and encouragement from watching children.

Lots of children have had dark experiences, and if they're not having direct dark experiences, they are thinking about things and learning that life is fragile. You have to acknowledge that side of life to be able to then offer comfort and hope and goodwill.

Kids need to see their world reflected back to them.

Appalling things can happen to children. And even a happy childhood is filled with sadnesses.

Having children made us look differently at all these things that we take for granted, like taking your child to get a vaccine against measles or polio.
