If there's a song that stops meaning anything to me, then I'll quit playing it.

Whether lyrically or musically, it reaches in there and grabs your soul. That's the stuff I gravitate toward.

My song 'Play It Again' is a perfect example of my music because the verses go so hard, and they're so urban; and then this pop hook comes out of nowhere and socks you in the face and makes you want to dance.

I love that, even after jumping through hoops forever, I can still get that buzz, that hook. That's very healthy, but it's bittersweet, too, because if you don't get the part, you have to deal with the disappointment. I don't think I'll ever negotiate those peaks and troughs wholly healthily.

I get a different kind of lyric from someone else that might make me go in a different musical direction.
