I don't understand why it has to be either - or - either socialism or democracy. Why can't we combine things to get the best of each system?
Sentiment: NEGATIVE
Socialism's not a word that I use. I say 'social democracy' because I don't think the government needs to own all the means of production.
We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both.
From a systematic standpoint, I think that capitalism is the best system. I can spend a lot of time explaining why I like communism, but it is actually not a good solution. Nor is socialism. So, capitalism is the right model.
Democracy is not compatible with capitalism but is congruent with a version of democratic socialism in which the wealth, resources, and benefits of a social order are shared in an equitable and just manner.
But we don't have an example of a democratic society existing in a socialist economy - which is the only real alternative to capitalism in the modern world.
Democracy is the road to socialism.
I'm tired of this discussion of capitalism and socialism; we live in the 21st century, we need an economic system that has democracy as its underpinnings and an ethical code.
Democracy is the wholesome and pure air without which a socialist public organization cannot live a full-blooded life.
All systems are oligarchy. There is no other.
Socialism, as I understand it, is a system of democracy. Without democracy, there is no socialism.
