It's interesting, the more successful you become the more people want to give you stuff for nothing.

I give away something up to $500 million a year throughout the world promoting Open Society. My foundations support people in the country who care about an open society. It's their work that I'm supporting. So it's not me doing it.

I want to be helpful to the charities I support. I think you can dilute it, the more you do. You have to be a bit strong about what you do... otherwise, you risk spreading yourself a bit thin, and you can be less useful.

You can't be a resource for others unless you nourish yourself.

My theme for philanthropy is the same approach I used with technology: to find a need and fill it.

I have always given money away. I haven't always been wealthy - the opposite, in fact. But I have always felt that I wanted people to share it with me.

I had one idea that never changed in my mind - that you should use your wealth to help people.
