What I do and what I record only work for the moment.

Sometimes in the past when I was going to perform a piece again I would listen to old recordings and try to reproduce the material. This time I realized that carrying around old information, trying to get everything in, and still be in the moment just doesn't work.

When I write a record, I don't even touch a computer. I don't even bring my cell phone.

When I make records, I never listen to stuff after it's done. Ever.

I do not want to live in a world where everything I do and say is recorded. That is not something I am willing to support or live under.

I've never stopped writing, never stopped recording.

I don't live in the past. I don't play my old records for that reason. I make a statement, then move on to the next.

Through the years I've found that I prefer live playing to recording. I still do lots of recording - but I treasure the live shows.

I have been recording for five decades now.

When I am not recording, I do live shows or am at home catching up on shows which I regularly watch. But there will always be some music around me.
