I like making films about different cultures. I'm interested in things that I've never encountered before. I try to put myself in the audience's position.

A lot of times I watch TV and I watch film and there's so many things I'd love to talk about that I feel don't get the opportunity to be shown. Sometimes things become very stereotypical and one-sided, and I feel like it's such a colorful world.

A l lot of films I've done are essentially about women who are finding their voice, women who don't know themselves well.

I love to read books by women I look up to who are smart, funny, and interesting, like Tina Fey's 'Bossypants' and Mindy Kaling's 'Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?'

I'm shy by nature and don't like talking about myself, and would let my films do the talking.

I enjoy talking to people about what I do - about films, music, directors, and art. It's very strange, having to talk about yourself.

My entire career stands on the strong pillars of women-oriented films. This stems from the fact that I am sensitive to the entire aura and mystique of a woman and womanhood.

I applaud Women in Film - not only for celebrating the successes of women, but for providing a safety network to mentor women and to discuss the particular issues that arise in a very male-dominated industry.

I mean, I've been in a hundred and fifty films; I don't want to just sit around and talk about things.
